Somerset Hills

Chorus

Somerset Hills Chorus was formed in October 1992. Under the direction of our first director, Cynthia Tucker, we won the Small Chorus award six times in regional competition and Cynthia was awarded one of the inaugural “Women of Note” awards in 2015.

Following Cynthia’s retirement we were fortunate to recruit Kirstie Spencer as our new Director. Kirstie, who sang with Plymouth Mayflowers for eight years, was their assistant director for two years studying for her Directors Certification, qualifying in 2015. She continues to sing competitively in two quartets “Raise the Roof” with friends from Mayflowers and a mixed quartet “Myxd Up” which won the European championship in 2016.

Most of our chorus members received no previous musical training before joining and the majority of us learn by ear from downloads/recordings rather than by reading music. We firmly believe that singing is good for our general health and wellbeing and enjoy performing in a range of venues both locally and of course at the prestigious Convention venues each year.

Anyone is welcome to join us – details can be found on our own website.
