The Harmony Rag, operated and managed by the Quartet of Nations Region 31, is an online magazine/blog promoting and celebrating everything about singing a cappella four-part harmony in barbershop style.

We encourage content submissions from individuals and groups who practice this artform and provide a platform to those who are passionate in shaping our understanding of this style of musicianship and performance.

Content guidelines

Articles or stories of the following nature may be submitted for inclusion in the Harmony Rag:

  • Summary or highlights of recent chorus/quartet activities, e.g. shows, competitions, coaching
  • Spotlight on chorus/quartet/member achievement
  • Inspirational stories around life with singing a cappella four-part harmony in barbershop style
  • Educational content on singing. choreography, image and leadership
  • Reviews of barbershop, a cappella and/or singing materials (CDs, DVDs, shows)

The Harmony Rag is available to the general public and everyone who has access to the internet so someone who has never heard of barbershop singing or Sweet Adelines International (along with other barbershop organisations) may read it. Please bear that in mind when writing your articles.

Remember to check any facts that you are including in your article like names, dates, place and statistics, and ensure they are accurate. If the information has changed between your initial submission, it is your responsibility to inform the Editorial Team immediately.

Proofreading is done by the Editorial Team but we appreciate if you ensure that your article is free of spelling and grammar mistakes before submitting.

Needless to say, your article should NOT:

  • contain profanity or pornographic material
  • have content promoting unethical actions
  • have content directly copied from another source or author without proper attribution
  • not a rehashed/repurposed content of your previous submissions (unless it is part of a series approved by the Editorial Team)

Copy requirements

We encourage the submission of articles/stories between 350 to 1000 words. Longer feature pieces will be accepted at the discretion of the Editorial Team.

Please include hyperlinks to other websites in the copy.

Articles must be submitted with at least one relevant image in landscape mode. Please send the images as individual files rather than embedding them in the document. JPG and PNG formats accepted.

Please also supply a short author bio, an author photograph or other preferred image, and any social media contact information or links to personal or professional web pages.

Send all submissions to the Harmony Rag Editors: harmonyrag@sweetadelines.org.uk
