We are so happy to announce that this year London City Singers are nominating CatherineBass as our unsung champion! Catherine is affectionately known across the chorus as ‘CatherineBass’, to distinguish her from our other Katherines, Cats and Kates and to honour her position in our wonderful bass section.
We wanted to nominate her as our unsung champion this year as she has worked tirelessly behind the scenes during the pandemic to support the chorus. Catherine has been fundamental in the chorus recently becoming a registered charity, putting in a huge amount of time in to research and learn about the process as well as organise all of us to become trustees. She is incredibly skilled and has used this to benefit the chorus.
Catherine has been a Sweet Adeline for nearly five years and started this barbershop journey with LCS. She is a member of our music team and a co-section leader for the bass section. Her organisational and logical skills benefit us again here as she often produces bass notes for new songs we are learning – full of ‘bass traps’ to help us notice where we are probably going wrong, and handy tips of how to remember words and patterns. She is always promoting the joys of singing bass and encouraging others too – not forgetting compiling bass compliments from our favourite coach so we have something to listen to, to remember how great the bass section is!
Catherine’s enthusiasm for barbershop has grown year on year and is clearly visible to the chorus. She is always keen to learn more and sing more – evidenced by her regular attendance at extreme quartetting events, Harmony Brigade and educational events on top. She has won a silver medal at UK Harmony Brigade in 2020 just before we were all locked down – showing her dedication to learning songs to the best of her ability, and performing them well even in a new quartet.
She is a lively and committed member of the chorus – attending the majority of our virtual rehearsals over the last year. She has got to grips with recording technology and produced guides for other chorus members. She is always willing to have a laugh and has entertained the chorus with some hilarious videos she has produced in lockdown.

CatherineBass Doherty is our Unsung Champion for 2021. She has been a member of London City Singers for almost five years. She works hard as a member of the music team and bass co-section lead. She regularly gets involved in chorus activities and has been the lead figure in getting our chorus registered as a charity to promote barbershop singing.
