Events
Every year, chartered choruses and registered quartets are given the opportunity to compete within their region. Those who come out on top get to represent their region at the International Convention for a chance to be crowned the best in the world.
The annual conventions, both regional and international, also provide educational opportunities for members through workshops in addition to the other education events organised throughout the year. These events are designed to develop your skills as a singer, performer, choreographer, director, or arranger as well as leadership and managerial abilities.
Music
As Sweet Adelines International member, you have access to hundreds of barbershop arrangements to sing for your chorus and/or quartet. You get discount when purchasing these arrangements; in addition, you can also benefit from special music arrangements by internationally recognised arrangers within the organisation.

Join a chartered chorus
Joining a chorus is the most popular way to become members of Sweet Adelines International.
When you join a chartered chorus within the UK and the Netherlands, you automatically receive full membership to the Quartet of Nations Region 31 and Sweet Adelines International. This will entitle you to all educational, performance and competition privileges provided. You will receive a membership card, subscription to The Pitch Pipe, member rates for convention registrations (regional and international) and education events, and discounts on purchases on the Sweet Adelines International Sales shop.
Individual membership
If you do not wish to join a chartered chorus or be part of a region, there are many ways in which you could still become a member of Sweet Adelines International.
Chapter At Large (CAL) membership
If you are interested in joining as a quartet member only, Chapter-at-Large is the option for you. If you choose this option, you do not need to locate a chartered chorus prior to joining.
If you find that you wish to join a chorus at a later stage, you are eligible to transfer your membership without paying an additional fee in the same fiscal year. Upon transfer, your CAL membership automatically terminates.

Chapter At Large (CAL) membership
MAL members are affiliated with Sweet Adelines International but are not affiliated with a chapter (chorus or quartet) or region and are not required to pay regional dues. In addition, you may not compete or perform with a chorus. You may perform as a quartet but not allowed to compete in a Sweet Adelines International contest as part of a quartet. As MAL member, you will receive a membership card, subscription to The Pitch Pipe, member rates for convention registrations (international only) and education events, and discounts on purchases on the Sweet Adelines International Sales shop.
Sing in a Quartet
Barbershop music originated with quartets – each person carrying their own part creating and improvising harmonies around the melody.
Whilst singing in a quartet can be very challenging due to the fact there is only one person singing each part, it is equally rewarding, to find the right balance of voices, abilities and personalities to ring those chords and wow the audiences.
Any member of Sweet Adelines International can form or join to sing in a quartet. If you wish to sing in a quartet but not a member of a chartered chorus, you need to join Sweet Adelines International as Chapter-at-Large.
As a Chapter-at-Large member, you can participate in all educational opportunities, and enjoy all regional and international membership privileges.
