Why nominated
Fiona is so much part of Solent Sounds that it’s hard to imagine chorus life without her. Many of the things she does might not be obvious to our members, but they are key to the functioning of the chorus. She volunteers for many things but, more than this, she thinks ahead of and around aspects of chorus life – helping us to plan better and head off any potential problems.
She is a strong, reliable Lead and generously shares her expertise and enthusiasm with the Leads Section and others. Recently, when our Bass section needed boosting, she stepped up, quickly learning and passing both our Convention songs in Bass.
She supports and advises the current Admin Board, sharing her considerable experience from the many Admin posts she has held and helping out whenever tasks need to be done.
She promotes the chorus, encouraging potential members both at publicity events and even when out shopping! She greets visitors with a welcoming smile, gives them the information they need, and introduces them to other chorus members so that they soon feel at home.
With her positive attitude, practical involvement, passion for Barbershop and commitment to Solent Sounds, Fiona truly is our champion!
Bio
Fiona joined Solent Sounds in 1992 and during her 33 years with us has held many positions on the Admin Board including Treasurer, Travel, Membership and President. She continues to support the current Admin Board and helps with developing and teaching our choreography. Recently she taught the Leads at our free FUNdamentals course, helping to spread the love of Barbershop and encouraging new chorus members. She has sung with several quartets. Currently she sings with Rock the Boat.
