Singing Unlimited
Jooske Hommes - Unsung Champion 2025 - Sweet Adelines

Jooske joined Singing Unlimited (SU) in September 2013 shortly after its formation, after having attended a 6-week workshop “Learn to Sing”. She quickly became an integral part of the tenor section with her beautiful, classically- trained, singing voice. The tenor section in SU would indeed be incomplete without Jooske’s lovely high notes!

Soon she became the section leader for the tenors and after some years she also took on the role as ‘education’ person. After coachings she consistently encourages and facilitates the team to evaluate this for a continuous learning experience. She is the chairperson of the music team and maybe even more important: she fulfills these roles with energy, warmth and enthusiasm!

Jooske became one of the assistant directors at Singing Unlimited and her dedication to the chorus and wish for continuous learning led her to achieve her DCP certificate in 2023. You can always count on Jooske for help during rehearsal, regularly executing the vocal warm-ups and if needed being ready to direct the chorus.
She creates an environment that is warm and supportive and – very important to her – fun! Her communication is laced with a considerable dose of humour, which endears her to all our chorus members.

She is a very reliable and steadfast member of our chorus and we are so proud of her and intensely grateful for all she does for the chorus.

Jooske embodies the essence of the Unsung Champion award: she does not seek recognition, yet she absolutely deserves it.

Therefore we are delighted to honour her as our Unsung Champion 2025!

Jooske studied Communcation Science at the University of Amsterdam.

As a co-founder of ‘KleintjeKunst’ (Dutch for: ‘LittleArt’ or ‘Art for Little ones’), she brings professional artists to children in schools or childcare centres to introduce young children to music, theatre, visual arts, and literature.

In addition, Jooske has been actively volunteering with WarChild for 20 years, visiting schools as an educator to raise awareness among children and young people about the impact of war on their peers worldwide. She is also involved in Rotary, particularly in international youth exchange programs.

Jooske is a mother of three children, whom she lovingly raises together with her husband. Her family is her foundation, but she is also the friend and colleague everyone can rely on.
